Apple’s upcoming iPhone 15 set to feature an advanced ultra-wideband (UWB) chip, enhancing Vision Pro headset compatibility

Ming-Chi Kuo has released a new investor note, containing intriguing forecasts about future iPhones. According to Kuo, the iPhone 15 range will be equipped with an enhanced UWB chip, the U2, promising improved interaction with the Vision Pro headset.

Apple has consistently used the U1 UWB chip since its introduction in the iPhone 11. Kuo indicates that the U2 will transition from a 16nm process (as seen in the U1) to a 7nm process, which should increase performance while reducing power usage.

The U1 chip is currently found in devices such as the Watch Series 6 and newer, HomePod mini, the second-generation HomePod, the latest AirPods Pro’s casing, and the AirTags. The U1 chip enables functionalities such as the Find My feature, Handoff, Precision Finding, and AirDrop.

In another development, the forthcoming iPhone 16 series is reportedly set to transition to Wi-Fi 7 next year. This upgrade is another step towards enhancing the compatibility of the Vision Pro with the iPhone.

As per the Wi-Fi Alliance, Wi-Fi 7 offers virtually unnoticeable latency and provides extremely responsive real-world like experiences in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) content.
